Question

1998 E-250. Am trying to disconnect hoses from heater core. They have some kind of slip on fittings instead of clamps. How do these disconnect? Dan

Answer

XXXXXXX, These are quick disconnect fittings. Yeah, I know, not quick to disconnect when they have been on a long time. There is a tool to use, but, it doesn't usually work too well.

  1. Push the heater water hose toward the tube to fully expose the locking tabs.

NOTE: A slight twisting motion while pulling on the heater water hose may be necessary to assist in the removal.

Pull the heater water hose away from the heater core tube.

  1. Plug the heater water hose.
  1. Remove the white coupling retainer from the tube.
  1. Spread the retainer tabs apart and slide the retainer off the tube.

Discard the retainer.

You can purchase these connectors from your local Ford dealer. They should have them in stock. I would depress the 2 tabs and remove the hose, then remove the remaining plastic washers and o rings.

I understand to a point, but do I need to hold something down or in place while I attempt to remove the hose? What disengages the hose?

Accepted Answer

XXXXXXX, The 2 white clips with the tabs on it, in the above photo with the arrows, depress them both at the same time while twisting and pulling straight out on the hose. You may want to spray some nut buster to help loosen the coupling and stuck o rings.

Thanks. It appeared that's what was needed but they wouldn't depress. I guess I just need to be a little more aggressive. Thanks again. Dan
