Question

My 1995 Lincoln Town Car will not start the first thing in the morning. The engine cranks but will not turn over. I have replaced the gas filter. After I spray starting fluid, it will start and will continue to start for the rest of the day. When I dropped it off at the Mechanics, it started two day in a row. Now for three days in a row I am back to the old problem. It won't start
again. The Mechanic said that in order to find the problem, he needed it to be on his property
and not start, so that then they could diagnose what is the problem. One of my questions is
do I have to have it not start to truly diagnose the problem? My mechanic said a possible
expensive solution would be a fuel pump. Special Note: the car has 150,000 miles and this
problem has been consistent happening occasionally during the past year, but the car seems
to periodically fix itself and starts for a month or two. Need a lincoln town car expert to answer this problem.

Answer

Ok it does sound like a weak fuel pump thats not primeing on teh first start the best thing is when it actually does not start you need to do a fuel pressure reading and see if the fuel pump is actually the problem, also could be the sock in the fuel pump getting clogged and not allowing fuel to flow correctly so a fuel pressure reading when this does happen woud be next

Do I need to have to towed to a mechanic or them to perform a diagnosis, or can I simply start the car with the starter spray and
then take it in? I am in dillemma for what I have to do to get this
car to start by itself. If you would like, you can call me at XXX XXXXXXX and explain to me what I really have to do to fix this.

Answer

Ok unfortunately we are not allowed to contact customers directly company policy ,I would have it towed if it wont start now this way they could hook the gauge up before they crank it over to get a fuel pressure reading

Answer

Ok the problem occurs or even before it does happen have the shop have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel line and as they crank it and it dosent start they can see if the fuel pressure is actually low which means the fuel pump is weak not allowing the car to start
