Question

I have an BMW 520 Touring 2001 mod that is overheating. The radiator is half full. I refill water but the car stops after a minute. Meter shows red. Radiator is full with water at that point.
What could be the problem ?

Answer

Hello,

Thank You for choosing Just Answer for your query. Yes, I can help you.

These symptoms are consistent with a failed thermostat. If the engine is overheating usually within about 5 minuets of starting cold and the coolant level is NOT low, the thermostat has likely failed and no longer will open.

If no coolant is leaking out (I assume the coolant is blown out of relief valve when it overheats) I suggest you replace the thermostat and retest.

I hope I have answered your questions and addressed your concerns, should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to ask. I want you to be 100% satisfied with my answer.
