Question

my 1998 plymouth voyager's radiator sprung a leak. I was going to add some stop leak stuff to the radiator to see if that worked but the back of each bottle said the radiator needed to be cleaned and flushed before use. do you suggest me to try that before replacing the radiator? and by the way the leaking fluid was brown like muddy water probably from rust build up. The van never ran hot either

Already Tried:
I haven't tried anything yet, I only went to autozone to ge some antifreeze and some stop leak but didn't get anything when I read the bottle and it read that i needed to flush the radiator first.

Accepted Answer

You can try to add the stop leak if you choose, many people do that without flushing the system and that will get them by for awhile if it does work. It sounds like your cooling system has been neglected some by the description of the coolant, I assume you have not changed or flushed it before. Once radiators develop leaks especially from rust deterioration the stop leak will not work . I would recommend replacing the radiator and flushing the cooling system but it is a pretty expensive repair on your vehicle.
