Answer

XXXXXXXX,

Chances are good you have a failed water pump. The water pump impeller is made of plastic and are prone to brake and crack. This cause the impeller to not spin and therefore no water circulation. Take the small hose off the water reservoir and hold it over the top. Have a helper start the car and hold it at 2000 rpms. You should have a steady flow of antifreeze. If not, the impeller is bad and the water pump needs replacement. This is the problem on 75% of overheating vw's. Do the test when the engine is cool or cold.
