Dear XXXXXXXX:

Thank-you for your question.

Budfies seen to be at risk for more tumours than most other birds. These tumours may be either benign or malignant, but in many cases, the skin tumours are benign. Lots of 'lumps' on/under wings turn out to be:

  • feather cysts
  • lipomas
  • fibromas
  • xanthomas

-Lipomas (fatty tumours) may be caused/influenced by a predominently seed diet.

-Fibromas are frequently found on wings and may interfere with function, thus necessitating either tumour removal or wing amputation.

Unfortunately, there is little for you to do at home for treatment. Your best plan would involve a veterinary visit for a diagnosis, and treatment would follow. Here is a link to help you find a vet: www.aav.org/vet-lookup.
