Question

I will be getting a Sphynx kitten in a few months. I have had persian and siamese cats in the past, and lost my persian after 15 years, a few years ago. I had to purchase 4 new couches during her lifetime as she loved to claw them to pieces. I have decided to have my new kitten declawed. Can you tell me if there is any danger in this procedure and what is your opinion on this.

Thank you.

Optional Information

Age: <1; Female; Breed: Sphynx

Already Tried:
The Sphynx kitten has not yet been born. Her expected due date is in July. I have had many problems with the Persian I had shredding my furniture and therefore have decided to get the front nails declawed. People have told me that this procedure robs the pet of balance and mentally scars the pet etc. Is this safe... how long is the recouperation time etc. Thank you.

Dear Autumn,

Congrats on choosing a Sphin kitten for your next pet. They are wondeful, clean, itelligent, loyal and sweet. They are also hyperallergenic. They do require some special grooming. Here's a video:

Not all cats claw furniture so I would get a scratching post and see if your baby will use it before you choose to declaw. If you do decide to do it, do a lasar procedure only. It is less stressful and easier to heal.

Best of luck with your new baby,
