94 town & country 3.8 liter v6 starts runs till temp. gauge reaches operating temp. dies. will not start.till next day. fuel pressure 40 lbs, No spark, changed cam sensor, temp sensor,O2 sensor, all new. replaced eng. control module from junk yard did same thing. Replaced asi motor acct. stuck out more than an inch. no help. checked primary coil resistance .5 ohm. secondary 12,000 ohms same as new one from auto store. still same reading before starting and after dying fuel pressure regulator seems ok sill reads pressure next day. fuel pump recharges pressure if relived at fuel rail after dying. still no spark some people suggest that van runs on memory till it reaches operating temp. then eng controll module takes over? removed covers off of fuel and asd relays watch while eng. starts dying asd flutters just before stall i think fuel relay deenergizes after stall. try resart no luck and no spark where is it ggoing? need your help badly

Answer

You will likely need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Has anyone had a scan tool on it to see if there is a crank position signal when cranking it over. The crank sensor is also adjustable, you loosen bolt push it in till it touches flex plate and then pull it out just a bit like .010 of an inch. The crank sensor is located on transmission bell housing towards the rear under the exhaust crossover pipe. I hope this helps, thanks!

forgot to mention wouldn;t start at all wires rubbed through eng. crank sensor replaced sensor had afelt sticker on it said it was gaged at .030 thousands not to remove felt sticker eng started ok but still dying after warm-up.

You are going to need a scan tool to diagnose this to see if you have cam and crank signals and also to see the auto shutdown reading to see if it is hi or low. When there is no start can you check the orange wire at cam & crank sensor to see if there is 8 volts. Let me know thanks!

dodgetech2875 checked orange wires at cam and crank sensors with just ignition on before start, while running and after shut down 9volts. ASD relay has 13 .5 volts while running tried restart and checked orange wires again still 9 volts. van starts next day like their isn't even any kind of problem, what are the two relays just in front of the battery mounted on the fender well. what are some of the sensors and relays i can disconnect and still start the van maybe to eliminate this problem. Thanks

I thought that was the test, see if it will start right now thats all you wrote. I live 30 minuets away from van thats why I talk to you in the eveing can't do tests till next day if possible.

Can I get you to unhook the battery for 1o seconds then hook it back up and start the engine. After it dies and won't start crank the engine over for 10 seconds 2 times. Then turn key off wait a few seconds then turn key on,off,on,off,on and the watch the check engine light to see if it flashes a code. Example code 21 would flash 2 times pause 1 time, code 44 woukd flash 4 times pause 4 more times. Counting the flashes before the pause will give you your first digit and after the pause your second digit. Count them all, thanks!

Answer

When the van dies can I get you to pull the throttle position sensor wire off and check the Violet/White wire for voltage with the key on. Then check the Dark Green/Orange wire at the ignition coil while cranking it over and let me know. Make sure to pull the connector off.

I am sorry I couldn't get back to you, we had a storm go through last night and was without power for 6 hours!!

Answer

This is going to be caused by something on the engine heating up and quits working and the only things that can cause this are #1-crank sensor, #2cam sensor, #3ignition coil

This could also be caused by the engine controller heating up with operation and becoming faulty when it gets to a certain temp, but i don't think this is the cause. If you don't have spark it will be 1 of 3 things I mentioned. It can't be wiring or it will do it cold also. This has nothing to do with the engine controller knowing the temperature of the engine. A part is failing due to heat from the engine!
