Question

Are home was built nearly nine years ago. At that time we had just returned from living in Europe and my wife wanted to try and replicate 'the look' of Country French. As a result we had our builder use a white mortar wash on the entire house. It look great.

Unfortunately after nine years it has not weathered as my wife had hope (she would like to expose more of the red brick underneath.

I have powered wash the surfaces with some degree of success. The best being those that are horizontal and in high traffic areas.

We would like to 'weather' the look in certain places (e.g. entry way) a little more. Any suggestions?

Hi XXXXXXXXX,
Depending on the thickness of the mortar wash you could use a random orbit sander to remove the wash to simulate weathering. A random orbit sander will not leave swirl marks. You could try a pretty aggressive grit disk (40 or 60 no finer than 80). I would try it out on an inconspicuous area to get the hang of it and to see if you get the desired effect. The sanding disks probably won't last very long since they are not designed for this purpose.
If the wash is thick (more like stucco) then the only way to take it down would be with a grinder using a carbide disk but a grinder would leave swirl marks. Be sure to wear a mask while you do this.
