Experts recommend that women limit their drinks to one per day and men to two. To prevent a problem, settle on a limit before you leave home, and switch to club soda, or soft drink when you reach the limit you've decided on. It should be an automatic switch. Drinking socially is more about the social aspect than how much alcohol is consumed. Some people manage to be quite sociable all evening long on only ginger ale.
