Question

Our 97 Mitsubishi Montero car alarm is set and will not go off. So the car will not start. The hand held alarm and lock system hasn't been working for months. It clicks unlock and immediately locks again and ha not set the alarm in who knows how long. This morning when my sister returned from therapy she went back out to the car and it wouldn.t start and the alarm light was signaling on the dash eeven though she never touched the hand alarm. Does it need a new battery in the hand held or can we disconnect the alarm altogether and how do we do it?
Thank you Barbara

Answer

Ok first thing to do is change the battery in the remote that could be the whole problem or could be the remote itslef is shorted out also if the doors lock right away could be a faulty door lock actuator

Yes I had the key in the on position. I will look under the dash by the steering column Be back in a few. No there is no box near the steering column just connecters with wires and I'm afraid to pull the wires because they could be to something else. also the car is a 96 not a 97 if that makes a difference. There is a plastic vent tube in the way when I try to see under the dash by the steering column so my view is limited, but I feel no boxes just plugs. Under the hood the little horn mechanism where all th alarm noises emit from ... I pulled the plug from it but the alarm went off so that wasnt the right plug either.

Accepted Answer

I am still stuck with a car that I can't get started. The information to disconnect the black box was something someone else did to their car and evreything stopped working. After trying the battery suggestion which didn't work and darkness fell. Today I had to work all day but I took the time to look up another website on car alarms that gave instructions for free about the valet button that overides the starter kill relay and returns the car to disarm mode. Something your expert didn't get around to telling me. So I will send the twelve dollars that I promised and will never use this sight again and will not recommend it to anyone.
