Question

construct/build a glass/plastic roof on my patio. Size is approx. 8' x 30' Thought I'd use 4" x4" beams and panels of glass/plastic 24" x 96". What thickness panels do I need for glass/plastic. Sometimes it hails in Texas. Marble size. Is double glazing an idea? What ver your advice can yo give me the approx cost of each item. Finally do I need a rubber/plastic joiner to fit the panels to the wood? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Preferably purchased out of Texas State to reduce cost of 8.25% tax. Perhaps in Oklahoma

Hi XXXXXXXX
Here is a link to mail order polycarbonate panels that will resist 1" hail

You can cut the panels to give you the 24" x 96" size. I wouldn't install the panels full size in a roof.

We've built many greenhouses and solariums. This polycarboante material is much easier to use than glass

Perhaps I did not make myself clear. The 4" x 4" beams will be 24" apart. Did you mean that individual panels of that size will not suffice? Please bear with me.

What I was saying is that the 48" x 96" polycrbonate panels I linked you to should be cut down to your 24" wide dimension. 24" apart for your rafters is perfectly acceptable.
