Question

A/C is cool under hood but will not come out of the a/c/ vents. Will come out some at floorboard. Defroster works with both hot and cool air. Heater works fine.

Does the heat come out of the vents fine? You are saying the AC will come out at the floor and at the defrost but not the vents correct? Give me a little more details and I will try to help. Also, do you have the electric or vacuum operated switch? Its ok if you are unsure. Thanks

The heat comes out fine. The a/c come out at the floor just a little bit and a vey little bit thru the vents. I don't know for sure on the switch. The switch does seem to be in working order.

Can you check the vent selector switch to make sure it is changing the air flow correctly on everything but the AC? This will help narrow down the possible problems. Thanks

Ok. Now what I want you to do is set the selector on each setting while the AC is off. In each setting turn on the AC and make a note if it blows out the correct spot or not. Send me feedback on each setting.

It does not blow out in the correct spot on any setting. The heat works on all settings.

One more thing I would like to ask you on this. When you selected the AC on each setting, did the blower fan blow at full force in each setting even though the cold air did not come out? Or did the fan blow only at full force in one area not matter which selection you made?

Each setting it would blow out appropriately. Low- Low High - High

Answer

Ok now that makes much more sense. If you put the AC on recirulate, does it work properly or still the same? What this will tell is wether or not the outside air duct is clugged and not allowing air to be sucked through the AC grill. If the AC is still not working properly then the temp controller is not working proerly. This is the unit that diverts the air flow from the heater core to passing through the AC unit.
