Hi there, generaly the model of shelby ' ranged from 66 up to about early seventies70 and at that point they introduced the mach 1 , which is just as desireable, but the shelby is just that much cooler, they kind of stopped around early seventies, they are just as classic as each other however the earlier models from 66-68 are the favourites, i believe the gone in 60seconds model is a 1968 Fast Back.
The basic ground for a replica build is buy a rolling shell- (any mustang model that wthat had a shelby model avilable in that shape) and commence building. so for example , you want a gone in 60 seconds model, you would look for a 1968 hard top two door coupe-possibly an "A-code"- i can be corrected on this , but pretty sure it was an A-code shell, -it wont be a genuine shelby shell, because they just arent avilable any more and if one was it would be worth thousands, potentially into the hundreds!
I got a link that you might like, its a company based out of california called dynacorn classic bodies, these guys have just started reproducing brand new bodies for mustang, camaro and i believe the early chevy's-1955 and 1956 etc, this means for a price you can start with a brand new 66,67,68 or 69 shell, rather than starting out with an old one, i actually came across it the other day, but after i had posted to you so you have come at a good time,
Because here is the link for you; www.dynacornclassicbodies.com
this will show you the whole range of new shells available AND the best thing is that they are a registered Ford product, as they havew the approval and appropriate licensing to reproduce the bodies from theoriginal tooling used way back then.!
Which is awesome for you cos you can build a brand new Shelby stang .
This company did a promo feature in HOT ROD magazine; www.hotrod.com and you can read even more about them there.
But if you decide not to go that route, just look for a Shelby shaped rolling mustang body/chassis in that good condition and go from there, you will need an exact shaped shell to pull of a correct replica, but not a genuine shell.
Best wishes with this, check it all out and go from there!!
Let me know if you have any other questions, and il gladly do my best to sort it for you!!
Best Wishes; Matthew (aka; matt0302)
