Question

Hi there, I have a 1979 HZ Kingswood, 6 cylinder automatic. It is converted to LPG, which it runs sweet on. I do have aproblem starting first off in the morning or if it has been siting for a extended period. Its fires but doesnt seem to get to idle. Have been pouring petrol into carb, which it fires straight away. Just a inconvenience to do this everytime. Once is running runs sweet and fires up first time. it has electronic primer, and also manual primer, but the problem still exists, wonder whether is fuel pump issue. The seals around fuel pump hoses maybe alittle dodgy, but looks fine.

It runs great on LPG, but is rough on Petrol. There is a massive flat spot and stalls if the choke inst right out. Once moving and it changes to third gear at say 40km it stalls if u dont put the choke back in. Assuming it is a tuning issue with carburettor which is a single barrel stromberg. Have replaced gaskets and plunger in the carb. Still has flat spot and stalls.

Optional Information

1979 Holden Kingswood 202 auto

Already Tried:
New coil, new main lead. New battery, have really managed problem by pouring petrol into carb, as i know it will start. Dont want to muck about flattening battery etc. it fires then dies, but does catch eventually if i dont pour petrol into carb. This is running on lpg, it is super dodgy on petrol due to tuning

Hi there, just a few questions if you dont mind;
1) have you checked the float level in the carby?
2) have you by any chance checked the fuel pressure and also for any leaks around the fuel pump?
3) have you noticed the oil level in the motor getting higher at all, and does it smell of fuel?
4)can you remove and check the spark plugs and lay them out in order and tell me if there are any that are fouled or carboned up and on which number cylinders are they?
5) when you put your foot on the brake does the engine run rougher or stall, and has the engine ever backfired while on gas?
6) can you check the point gap in the distributor and the condition -if not thats ok, can you see if the points are opening up, when the dizzy is turned?
7) looking down into the carb, snap open the throttle,is there a sharp shot of fuel come out or is it weak and limp?
8)With the engine running , can you lightly trickle water over the inlet manifold gasket and tell me if the engine stalls or dies?
9) If you pump the throttle before or while trying to start the engine (while on petrol) does this make it any easier to start the engine-as opposed to pouring fuel down the inlet?
Sorry for all the questions but if you could get back to me with these it will help me to pin point the exact issues you are having and point out a solution/s
