The president of a local college wants to compare the grade point averages of students participating in different sports. The data are listed below. Test the claim that there is no difference in the mean grade point averages of the 3 groups. Use a 5% level of significance. (Hint: Between column variance -- MS-B = .39; within column variance -- MS-W = .25)
Tennis: 2.1, 2.6, 2.5, 3.5, 3.1, 3.2
Golf: 1.8, 2.1, 1.9, 3.3
Swimming: 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, 3.0, 2.5

The test statistic is MSB/MSW = 0.39/0.25 = 1.56

The p-value is 0.25. Hence we do not reject. There is not enough evidence to suggest that the means are different.
