Question

our cat seems to be afraid of us and hides under the bed. We got him out from there and he ran outside and will not respond to us at all. He was always very loving to us until today. he hid under the bed all day before we got him out. His eyes seem to be bigger and he just stares at us. when we do get ahold of him he fights us to get away.

Info Request

Hi,

Does your cat normally spend time outside?

Have you seen him eating, drinking and eliminating as usual, before he started hiding?

Has he eaten, drunk, and/or eliminated since he started hiding?

Thanks,
Cher

Our cat wears a collar that is matched to a Petsafe inground cat fence so he will not leave the yard, but spends most time in the house. As far as we know he hasen,t drank or eaten today other than a little tuna we used to get him from under the bed. He may have eliminated outside I don,t know.

Accepted Answer

Hi again, and thanks for your additional information.

From your description of how your cat is acting, he is either in pain, may have ingested a toxic substance, and/or was startled or injured. A cat who hides and doesn't want to be picked up is very frightened and may be in pain. Because of these possibilities, it would be a good idea to bring him to the vet, immediately, in order to find out the cause of his uncharacteristic behavior.

I asked if he had eliminated today, because a male cat acting like this, may have a urinary obstruction, which is an emergency. If he eliminates outside, I realize it's difficult for you to know for sure.

If you have an ER vet center in your area, bring him there now, for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Hopefully, it will be something minor, which is easily remedied.

I hope all will be well with you furry boy!

Cher
