Question

My Windows programs (Word, Excel) just started malfunctioning. Word won't open at all, Excel will open but won't open any files, even the one I just created and saved to the hard drive as a test.

I am running Vista (sigh), Home Premium edition, on an Acer Aspire 9410Z.

Answer

Hello. Try to run the diagnostics tool...

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA012340761033.aspx

Since you can access excel still, try this...

Excel
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
Click Resources.
Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics

BEST OF LUCK! :)

I have opened Excel and do not see a button labeled "Microsoft Office"?

Answer

Its the File button, the Windows Logo in the top left corner that gives you the drop down list to save, save as, print, etc

There is no "Excel Options" selection int he drop-down under "File"

Please don't just throw answers at me- this is very frustrating. If you don't have Excel 2003 open in front of you to walk me through this then don't guess - pass m e on to someone who can help.

There is no "Diagnostics" program under "Tools". Maybe that wasn't part of the 2003 MS Office suite. Can I download it for free from somewhere?

I did a search and did find a memory diagnostics program, which I ran but it found no errors.

Now what?

I re-installed Office and there is still no "Diagnostics" program in the Tools folder, and I still have the same problem with MS Word and Excel.
