Basically I'm trying to get into a chatroom - http://www.freechatnow.com/

I've never had an issue with it until yesterday, and since then I have not been able to get on. It said on the bottom left hand corner 'Loading Java Applet failed' so I downloaded javascript again. But now it says "Error. Click for details" When I do it says,

"the application failed to run". When I click on the details button it comes up with

Answer

Were you able to use this chatroom yesterday? If yes, try a system restore :

Do the following :Start > All Programs>Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Then you can follow the instructions given here about how to do that. See the part of restoring to an earlier point, we want our system to be back to the stage before this problem occurred. Choose a date before yesterday. System restore will not delete any files , it will just change the settings.

Hi,

I just tried what you suggested. After the computer restarted, it said Restoration Incomplete. Then it said 'Your computer cannot be restored to that date', so I changed the date to another one, and it's resulted in the same answer.

what else could I do?

Thank you.

okay, seems it will not allow to do restore.

Okay , let us test if java is installed and running on your IE.
Go to http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml. The test will begin automatically upon viewing the page, and if their Dancing Duke logo appears on your screen Java is installed on your computer.

Wait for 2-5 mins to get the test results, this tester will show you the Vendor of your Java installation, the Version of Java that is installed on the computer, and the Operating System you are using.

Get back to me with the results

hi,

I've run the test as you said, and the vendor is Sun Microstystems Inc, the version is Java 6 update 13, and OS is Windows XP. And I saw the dancing duke logo...

What should I do now?

Thanks.

Answer

Looks like java is installed and running. Could you try using another browser . I would advice you to use firefox. Try using Mozilla firefox which is a very good and popular browser. Download it and then install it . I personally use firefox.

Having installed it, go to

http://www.java.com/getjava/

and install java. Try the site now using firefox

Hi Abhi,

Exactly the same is coming up on firefox!!

"Error. Click for Details" and then when I click into it, "Application error". Then the same blurb under 'Detail" is coming up again.

Answer

Hi there,

I just ran some tests on that site and tried accesing taht site myself using IE, firefox and another broser but it gives me the same error, the java symbol comes for a while and then the error clicking on which gives me exactly same information as you got. My system has fully functional java and other add-ons.

This is a temporary problem with the site itself and nothing to do on your system. I looked at the error details and it mentions the line where the error occurs, it is due to bad coding of that site which we can't help. Probably the administrator will realize this and will soon correct it. You just need to wait.

Alternately, I would advice you to try other chatroom such as yahoo chatrooms, there are far more participants there and you will have a lot of fun compared to this site mentioned by you.

Hope that helps.

Abhi

Answer

hi, the website seems to be up and functional back now.

You should try chatting now and there should be no problems now. If you still have issues, contact me.

Thanks
