Question

rick thank you for your answer. I also would like to tell you that i think the section was sawed out and disposed of i will ask the contractor today as the work is still going on. Would this additional information change your answer? Also a closet is supposed to be framed out over this same tile (getting laminate when construction is over) would that cause a problem.

It is possible that cutting up the old flooring could put asbestos into the air but it would not necessarily be a significant amount. The existence of asbestos in flooring is not something even a pro can know for sure without testing. If you have a serious concern then you should have the air tested. It is unlikely that this type of exposure will do any harm but that is only my opinion and is not meant to stop you from testing. The best thing you can do short of testing is to carefully vacuum all areas that could have been exposed to the related dust with a vacuum that has a non-allergenic quality filter. If you use a vacuum with a low quality filter you will only spread the dust around. Once you have vacuumed you should ventilate the area with a fan exhausting the inside air while pulling in clean fresh air from outside.
