Question

My neigbor is trying to force me to get rid of my dog for over a year. they are trying to say my dog is dangeorus but have nothing to uphold the claim. I have heard that they are starting a petition and trying to get other home owners in the neighbor to sign. My reputation is bein hurt.
My dog has never shown aggression to anybody. Is on a leash in the yard and has not even barked at anyone. Animal prejudis becasuse my dog may be part pit bull.
Problem - last week my daugher was bitten. we volunteered to foster another dog until it can be adopted. The dog did not get along with our dog, they began to fight and my daugher was bitten trying to break up the fight. this happened inside our home. Both dogs are good dogs and it is natural for 2 males to obtain a domance over one another. we removed the foster dog immeadiatly and will not foster again. to much stress on our family and our dog.
We have a female Pek and have had no problems.   What can be done?

Accepted Answer

Fortunately, while a petition might community force- aside from trying to pressure you to get rid of your dog, a petition carries with it no legal force.

Unless the dogs are creating noise violations, acting as a nuisance to the neighborhood or causes a threat to the health and safety of others-- there is not much your neighbor can do. I wouldn't worry- I would try to discuss the problems with my neighbor maybe there are ways you can handle the dog (i.e. keeping the dog inside more often than out, using a muzzle etc.) that will help make peace with the neighbors.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
