Question

My pet guinea pig has not been eating today and has a very strong smell to her. Her nose and lips seem very pail. I can not get her in to a vet until morning and do not know if there is anything we can do. I have been giving her infant pedialte and she seems to perk up a little bit but she is not doing well. I tried to get her into the vet at PetSmart but they did not care for exsotic animals, I am worried that she won't last until I can get her seen.

Thank you for any advice you may have.

If she is able to swallow then I suggest syringe feeding her until you can get her into the vet. I would first be sure that she is warm and not cold. I would then go to the grocery and pick up jarred baby vegetables and fruits as well as a medicating syringe from the infant section to start feeding her. Don't worry about liquids if you do this because she will get this from the food. I would also try to offer her fresh red pepper slices, dark green lettuces, carrots, and timothy hay as well. If she is not passing stool then it is likely she has developed gastric stasis. Feeding will help but she must have medications to regain motility.
