Question

can vistril and zoloft give positive for benzos, had a friend fail a drug screen(OneSource) saying that he takes both vistril and zoloft. Could this combination possibly cause a false positive on a drug screen. The name of the test I use is OneSource.

It does not seem possible that in any test there would be a cross-reaction of either vistaril or zoloft and benzodiazapenes. Neither one is in a class closely related to benzos. Vistaril is actually an antihistamine, used mostly for its anti-nausea ans anti-itching proprties, but occasionally used to calm a patient because one of its common side-effects is drowsiness. Zoloft is a selective seratonion uptake inhibitor type anti-depressant. It does not have a direct ant-anxiety action, but only treats anxiety if it's a symptom of the depression. So it does not seem possible that these 3 medications would be tested for in a similar way. If the test comes back positive for benzos, it could be just a test error or a mix-up in the samples.

Your response makes total sense to me. However, This situation is as follows, I am the manager of a three quarter way house for recovering addicts. I have a client that tested negative for bensos, he states that all he has taken is vistril and zoloft. I got information from another source today that large dose(200mg) of zoloft has caused this, this individual was reportedly tested with a different test today that was neg. I am concerned as to why, I tend to have more confidence in the answer you gave me. It was my thinking before asking you. I would like to have some ideal of how this could happen if the client is telling the truth. I am clicking accept because your answer is acceptable. But I would like to know if you can expand on it any as related to the situation I have descibed. Thanks for any help you can give.
