Accepted Answer

Solve (x + 1)^2 = 16/9 by radicals.

Note that 16/9 = (4/3)^2. This is very helpful. *wink*

(x + 1)^2 = 16/9

x + 1 = +/- sqrt[16/9]

x + 1 = +/- 4/3

x = -1 +/- 4/3

x = -3/3 +/- 4/3

x = -3/3 - 4/3
x = -3/3 + 4/3

x = -7/3
x = 1/3

check:

x = -7/3:

(-7/3 + 3/3)^2 = (-4/3)^2 = 16/9

x = 1/3:

(1/3 + 3/3)^2 = (4/3)^2 = 16/9
