Question

I am on a 90 day probationary period, i told my employer today that i was pregnant. her response to me was that shew as happy for me as a woman as my employer she was disappointed, she also stated that because i am within my 90 day period, (which will end on 6/17/09) she can terminate my employment since this is a full time position. Is this true, I am livig in Michigan. I feel like my job is in jeopardy now due to me telling them that I was pregnant, should I have waited my 90 days?

It is illegal to fire for this reason.

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act is an amendment to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions constitutes unlawful sex discrimination under Title VII

If an employee is temporarily unable to perform her job due to pregnancy, the employer must treat her the same as any other temporarily disabled employee

If the employer so discriminates, the next step is to file a complaint with the eeoc. see www.eeoc.gov

You did nothing wrong and they would be foolish to fire you on this basis, something a lawyer letter can remind them of.
