Answer
Thank you for your inquiry.
If you have entrusted your debt to a firm and are no longer making payments, the non-payments are the reason you are getting phone calls. Despite the fact that your debt is with this company, the debt and delinquency continue to compound. Therefore, the companies you are not paying (the Chase credit cards) have a right to sue you for the balance due. If the lawsuit results in a judgment, a lien can be put on your home (meaning if you sell the house they get the amount of the judgment from the proceeds). While neither your Medicare check nor your son's SS check can be taken, directly, a creditor with a judgment can attach your bank account and take whatever is in there up to the judgment amount. This would include a deposited SS check or the deposited Medicare check. The same is true with regard to foreclosure of your home - if you do not pay, the home will be foreclosed, then sold. The lender can then sue you for any amount owed that is not recovered in the sale. If the lawsuit results in a judgment, they can take the same steps as the credit card company.
I recommend contacting an attorney in your area who can negotiate settlements with everyone to whom you owe money, before any of these extreme steps are taken against you. A good referral source will be your county's Bar Association. There will be no charge for an initial consultation. The attorney may also be able to help get your debt away from the company that seems to have cause this situation and may be able to get your money back from them, as well.
Best of luck!
