Question

my 4 yr old female tonkinese cat has a habit of disappearing for days at a time. She does this regularly as soon as the better weather comes in the spring and continues until the weather turns cold and wet in the autumn.   She is quite a timid cat with strangers - very affectionate at home but doesn't go up to anyone she doesn't know. She always comes back, sometimes after 3 or 4 days. none the worse for her time away. In your experience, where do you think she goes? When she comes back she is rarely ravenously hungry and there is no sign that she's been locked in somewhere against her will, e.g. her claws aren't ragged.

Hi there,

It sounds like your girl is leading a double life. She may have another family that is feeding her. She goes there and stays awhile and then comes back to you.

This is actually quite common as cats are not usually loyal to one owner.

Try to follow her next time and see where she goes.

Best wishes to you,

Terri
