Answer

Hello,

You seldom need to turn off virus protection to install software. I know the installer tells you to, it's to eliminate the possibility of the security program messing with the installer. If you want to turn it off just to be on the safe side follow these steps:

  1. Open McAfee Security Center. You can do this by double clicking the 'M' in your task tray (neat the clock) or the McAfee icon on your desktop.
  2. In the lower left hand corner, click 'Advanced menu.'

  3. Your menu options should change, goto 'Configure' this is located a couple buttons up from the one just pressed.

  4. The Configure menu should expand at the top. Now click 'Computer and Files'

  5. Now in the center of the window, at the top, you'll see 'Virus protection enabled.' Click the bullet next to 'Off' and select a time frame to turn it off. 15 minutes should be sufficient enough. Click OK on the time window and it should shutoff for the time selected.
