Question
Asked re my wife's 2001 Aztec last night. Accepted before problem solved.
The idiot light for traction control system and abs light go on when we make a right turn! Driver info panel says to service traction system. Been checked; no problem. This started when we put in a new battery. Idiot lights are driving us crazy!
Last night FixItMan suggested unhooking the battery cable for about 10 minutes. We had already tried that.
He also suggested there might be a problem with the charging system. Just had that checked and it's putting out 14 volts under load: perfect.
Still have the idiot lights. What now?

Answer
If the lights are only coming on when you are making a turn then this would not be related to the battery change. This more than likely is a coincidence. It sounds like you may have a problem with one of the front wheel speed sensors, which is a major problem on these vehicles.

How do I check it? How do I fix it?
ps - The light stays on once the first right turn has been made until the key is turned off. then it comes back on when firt right turn on restarting.
pps - Thanks for responding again. I hit the accept button when should have asked for clarification - but still appreciate the answer of last night.

Answer
No problem. The only way to tell for sure is with a computer scanner to read the codes in the ABS/Traction system. Otherwise it is hard to tell. The problem with these front sensors is not a problem that you can see visually.

Okay. How does one re-educate the computer after disconnecting the battery? Do I
have
to go to the Pontiac dealer and pay through the nose for their time? Or will one of the generic OBD readers do the job?
I had to pay $157 (including shop time to set it!) for a new remote for entry when my wife couldn't get the key to unlock either door - and had to climb in from the back to get back into the car on shopping trips. I'm old school; it shouldn't cost so much to get into your own car. (Ford charged $25+ for the duplicate for our son's 2000 Mustang.) Being on disability doesn't leave a lot of room for paying someone else to fix a problem I should be able to deal with. I've been working on my own vehicles since high school - the '60's.
Answer
Unfortunately most generic code readers will not give you abs and traction system codes. You can always try though. Most autoparts stores will scan the computer for you for free. Otherwise if the computer needs to be reprogrammed this can be done at a lot of good autoparts stores which will save you from the dealer charge.
