i want to stop paying him rent so then i can save money to move into another apartment because this apartment is a harzard. i have been living here since 1994 there is no lease. i tell him to fix the apartment and he doesn't. he is indiiferent about his property. he doesn't care if i stay or leave but he will not fix the apartment. is there a way i can get money from him because i've always paid him my rent and i'm tired of living in a place that is a mess. the reason why i've always paid him my rent is because i'm afraid he'll kick me out. but if you see how i live is disgusting and i have picutres to show.holes on the walls molding in the bathroom. my oven hasn't worked for 3 years and he won't change it. my a/c doesn't turn on with the buttons i have to plug it in. so what can i do?

Answer

If you stop paying rent you could be evicted and sued. Go to court and file a complaint. The court will order repairs to be done and may award a rent credit as well.
