Question

I hate bark as a landscape material but the homeowners assoc. demands that flowers beds be mulched or???? Is there any reasonably attractive alternative?

There are a few alternatives that can be used in place of rubber mulch. Hopefully your HOA will allow a product other than bark mulch.

Some alternatives are rubber mulch, shredded leaves, natural river rocks, or pine straw. I am attaching a few link so that you can review each of them and decide which would suit your property the best.

Sounds like your HOA can be kind of picky, so you may want to get approval before using any of these alternatives to mulch.
