Question
I have a deposit down on a 2009 232 yamaha jet boat. It looks like I am not going to obtain a permit for a jet dock and the boat will have to stay in salt water. my dealer said that there wont be a problem if I paint the bottom and flush the system 2 times during the season (May-oct). is this correct? or will I really be killing the engines/exhaust by not flushing the boat

Hello. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Remember that these craft are designed for use in salt water. But, if you don't flush the motor, salt water will sit in it and some corrosion will occur. Over time, this corrosion will eventually wear away to the point where components will need replacement. This will happen as a natural consequence of running in salt water, but you can certainly minimize it by flushing with fresh water (and some folks even use a salt neutralizer). Twice a season seems not often enough to matter - it would be much better to do it every time it's used, or maybe every week or two. In any case you won't be "killing" the engine, but there will be some wear.
