Question

11+ yr old rescue Scottish Fold cat -chronic runny nose -runoff today was a little bloody. He's eating & drinking as normal. Uses litter box as normal. His behaviour is normal. What could the bloody nose imply? How serious? Should I take him immediately to our vet?

I've had him exactly 1 year.

I free-feed him Iams weight control, dry & give him 1 small can friskies grilled salmon at night.

No meds other than heartworm/flea: Revolution

Dear friend,

May God bless you for rescuing this sweet boy.

The bloody nose is called Epistaxis. It is not serious in itself:

He may have an upper respiratory or sinus infection, cat flu or even Herpes:

Dry food is not good for him PLEASE READ:

As long as hes eating well and using his littter it is not an emergency to rush him in. However, if the bleeding worsens or he stops eatting he should be seen.

Please let me know how he is doing.

Best wishes for him,

Terri
