Question

Pregnant cat was spayed on 3/25/09. About 2 weeks ago her mammary glands began to swell as if she has milk. Maybe she does??? What could be going on with her? What do I do?

Optional Information

Age: 2; Female; Breed: cat/DSH

Already Tried:
Nothing. There appeared to be waxy substance on then end of her nipples. Removed that. I think this cat (a stray) has had numerous litters before i rescued her .

I'm not certain, but she probably was about a week or so from delivery? She was a rescue cat so I really don't know how far along she was. Spay was performed at animal hospital that does s/n for feral and free-roaming cats in our area.

Dear friend,

May God bless you for doing rescue work.

Since this girl was so close to term, it is likely hormones remaining in her bloodstream caused the lactating.

You can apply cold comoresses (not ice) to her breasts three t imes a day till they go down or a vet can give her a shot to dry her up.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
