Answer

Right, ok then this is first thing you need to try......

MODEL
R50 (Cooper), R52 (Convertible), R53 (Cooper S) from 07/04 production

SITUATION
Remote control bar codes are no longer supplied with new vehicles

CAUSE
On vehicles produced 07/2004 and later, a new remote initialization procedure is required.

PROCEDURE
Initialize remote key as follows:

1.) Close all doors

2.) Switch the ignition switch to KL-R (first position), switch back off within 5 seconds and remove the key

3.) Within 30 seconds, press and hold the unlock button and at the same time, press and release the lock button (3) times. (Must be completed within 10 seconds)

4.) Release both buttons. The doors will lock/unlock to signal a successful initialization.

5.) If additional keys need to be initialized, repeat steps 3-4 within 30 seconds

6.) Switching the ignition to KL-R completes the initialization

Answer

Ok, well like you said the keys are recharged directly from the ignition slot so if you make a lot of short journeys or dont use one of the keys for a while this can cause them to become discharged. I have to say it's uncommon though but easily rectified by going out for a drive though.

Other then the keys simply loosing thier initialization there are a couple of other common problems. But before even considering those options the you'll need to check the fuse. My records show that it's a 20A fuse number 37 (check this on the fuse box lid though).

Please can you confirm whether or not the central locking button inside the car works?

yes the button works fine only the remote not working i have checked fuses all ok

Accepted Answer

It seems that either the vehicle is not recieving a signal from either of the keys or is recieving a signal but is not doing anything with it.

A few years ago Mini were terrible for general modules failing but inorder to diagnose this you would need diagnostic equipment which is unfortunately the route might have to take because all of the above has not worked.

The only other thing left to try is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then retry the initialization procedure otherwise it's a trip to the garage i'm afraid.

Rich.
