Question

This is my first time using this service, so let me know if you need more information to answer the question.
We have a small website that we sell t-shirts on and we recently lost our website guy (he bailed and moved to a fab city) and we had to cut back on our cost of hosting so I transferred my site to a new hosting company. The problem is that I don't know enough to figure out why the front page shows up but when you click on any of the links, it shows a broken link. I know the other files got transferred but I can't figure out why we are running into this issue. I am sure it is something simple but the little html and few classes I have had with Dreamweaver just haven't cut it.

I have tried to learn about cpanel over the last week or so but I can't find a place that would answer this question. And to be honest, in this economy we need the handful of sales we are missing.

I am happy to provide new information to answer this question, but I am not sure what to post at this point

Yes, and here is the url to the site so you can see that the front page loads, and it changes the images on some of the items at the bottom when you refresh but when you click on anything it goes to a broken link page.

http://t-shirtfrenzy.com/

thanks

Answer

Hello,

This is Ansh. I will help you while the other expert is offline.

The reason is pretty much simple, you have not the tansfered the pages to the new HostGator server for example lets take this link in your website: http://www.t-shirtfrenzy.com/designs-info-library-details-catId-info-101.html

So you must transfer the html page "designs-info-library-details-catId-info-101.html" to the new root location on the server. This applies to all the links, all the HTML files must be transfered to the new location.

Just use the FTP to transfer these pages to the "root" of your site. It will resolve the problem.

I hate to sound daff, but we had a backup of the site and Host Gator helped up transfer it. When I go into cpanel and click 'file manager' and then go to the 'root directory' there are files on the home page that come up ending in .php and I am not sure where to look to find those pages you are referrring to. I am at a loss of what to do to find them.

Accepted Answer

The links are refering to .html pages and not the .php files and as it seems either the files are not there at the server or the links are wrong. Try to connect to your server and find these files(they may be present at some different directory in the server and we need to change the links according to it). Sometimes even though files are transfered to a new server and the domain name is XXXX, XX takes some time for the DNS to locate the new location of the files but here in your case as it seems the files are completely missing or misplaced. If you have backup of the old site in your computer, try to use those files(upload them using FTP). Else try to contact the old host for the files(they might have the backup) and also Hostgator as they helped you to transfer the site, they can give you the idea where those files gone during the transfer.

Answer

Ok
This can be resolved in two ways........
Method One:
The link of file you transfered are not present with the server in the position it was suppose to be present. or tell him to keep all the files given by you in the same directory in which you have your main site.(i.e. http://t-shirtfrenzy.com/)
Method two:
Ask the server the location of that files and change it in the homepage of your site.

Like first of all find the location of following files at the server managing your site:
designs-info-library-details-catId-info-101.html
designs-info-library-details-catId-info-104.html
designs-info-library-details-catId-info-103.html
designs-info-library-details-catId-info-105.html
designs-info-library.html
designs-info-templates.html
designs-info-product_descriptions.html

and tell me then i will suggest you how to do the changes using method 2.
