Question

I have a BOSCH 5" random orbit sander 3107DVS (model XXXXXXXXXX . It worked fine until I decided to clean it. Part number 2 601 329 057 "fell onto the bench" when I was removing dust. This is item #32 on the exploded parts diagram; it is called a spring clip on one and a contact strap on another and it is shown between the 120v field and the armature. How do I reinstall the contact strap (Part number 2 601 329 057)?

Answer

Hello, and thanks for using JustAnswer. There should be a slot in the bottom of the housing, part 801 on your sheet. The slot is on the front side. The contact strap should slide up into this slot. There's nothing actually holding it in, which is why it fell out on you in the first place.

Found it. Took me a while to understand what to do with part #32 once I found the slot but I deduced that the loop at the tip of the horizontal leg fits over a post on #801; the sander is reassembled and running fine. Thanks for your help.

FYI - I want to accept your answer and send you this reply but the screen suggests I can only do one or the other (accept or reply) so I will reply first and then accept.

Feedback to BOSCH: The exploded parts diagram has part #32 just "floating". It sure would be helpful if the short (1/16 +/-), semi-circular post on #801 were shown on the diagram. That post apparently allows part #32 to be positioned/registered properly. Also, a fine line drawn from the semi-circular loop on the horizontal leg of #32 to the short (1/16" +/-) semi-circular post on #801 would be very helpful during reassembly of the two halves of part #801.

You are correct about both things. You can accept from this post if you like, and thank you. I also wish that companies would make their exploded diagrams a little easier to follow. I guess they are hoping that people will pay the outlandish fees to have an authorized repair shop fix it for you. Good luck!
