Have dell latitude d620. trying to repair xp pro. by installing again. no oem disk. to the point it ask to partition drives. can't select c: to partition. just want to start over!

I just want to clarify.Your question is a bit unclear.DO you want to repair XP or perform a fresh installation of Xp?If yes are you using a XP boot cd?

ALso can you explain the no. of hard drive partitions that your screen shows at the point you mentioned?

I was trying to just do a install gave up on the repair. I do have a xp pro install disk.

yes went thru setup. at the point where it ask about partitions on computer. Has a list of them. Says d to delet , c to create, f3 to quit . want to partition c: to install but it wont let me high light c: to select.

You cannot create a partition because c dive is a partition already created.

Also can you mention the details of c drive like drive size and what other is written side to it.

or can't you select the c drive at all using the arrows key

unpartitioned space 8Mb

D: ppartition2 unk 39mb

c: partition1 ntfs 76262 mb 36906mb free (xp already installed not working)

unpartitioned spase 8mb

Instead of performing a fresh installation can you try to perform a repair .

error reads:

missing or corrupt file

(windows root)\system32\hal.dll.

please re-install a copy of the above file
