Hello,
This is Dr. Christian. I'm sorry you had to make that decision. It is never an easy one. In the case of congestive heart failure there is no cure so even with treatment the condition was sure to return and in some cases does not respond to treatment. If she couldn't breathe then the condition was even less likely to respond to treatment in the short term. While difficult, euthanasia saved her hours of pain, fear and difficult breathing. I do believe you made the right decision and saved her from that suffering. I hope that I've helped in some small way and if you need anything else please let me know.

Dr. Christiain,
Thank you for your answer. It has been over a year since I put Lizzi to sleep. I have felt so guilty that I couldn't even think of getting another dog. I know there wasn't much you could do since I had already had her put to sleep, but it makes me feel better to know that I made the right choice. I would never have wanted her to suffer more than she was or to be afraid.
Thank you again.
