Answer

Hi I am Ashik. I think i can help you
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have some suggestions...

First of all, running Microsoft Windows on Macbook is a not a big problem. Apple supports it and you can use it (On Intel Machines). But you need to face those subject that you mentioned on the question like viruses, trojans etc and it will not take more time to boot if it was not affected by virus or trojans. If you provide up-to-date AntiVirus Protection and maintainance then you don't have to worry about that..You can use Windows on your Macbook Pro

If i were you, i don't install Windows directly onto the machine and instead of that i will install Windows with Parallels. Parallels enables you to work with both Windows and Mac at the same time...Its COOL

I ordered my MAcbook pro with the parallels option that installs windows XP professional. And I am wondering about the downside of using XP professionalon my macbook pro?
Are you saying that I will have none of the problems that I have tried to avoid by switching to the laptop from my Dell laptop?

Answer

If you use Parallels, you can easily jump from Mac OS to Windows or vice versa, by a single click...

You can easily share anything between Mac and Windows or vice versa at the same time.

If you use Windows directly without Parallels, you need to restart your Mac each and every time when you wan't to use Mac or Windows. You need to partion the hard drive for Windows. Its your choice whether you want to use Parallels or not...

If you want to do highly graphics or more memory usage (i mean system memory) works then you can install it directly without Parallels..

But remember virus and trojans will affect even if you use Parallels...Proper maintanance can only prevent this...i mean using up-to-date anti virus or anti-spyware.

Forgot to say, with Parallels you can easily install any OS on your Macbook at any time...like Fedora,Linux etc

I ordered a macbook pro because I was tired of the time and expense of the problems that I was having with my Dell laptop. My question was about the downside of using the Windows XP professional OS with my new MAcbook Pro. Am I going to escape all those problems including crashes, long boot times, thousands of updates that need to be made all the time, and problems with the Vista operating system etc., etc, etc, What is the downside of using the WIndows XP professional with my new MAcbook Pro? Be specific and focus on this question. Thanks,

Ron

Answer

Hi Ron.
My answer is NO!, Even if you use Windows XP or Vista in your Macbook Pro, you can't escape from these problems....Everyday the bugs and viruses for Windows are growing like wild fire. But Mac OS X are very secure and the viruses/spyware will not affect your Macbook pro if you use Mac OS instead of Windows...

So you are saying that I am vulnerable to these problems when I am using the Windows XP operaing system when using my MAcbook? ButI don't I need this Windows OS to access my windows files and windows classes? or not? Can I operate with office and my emails without switching to the Windows OS?

You can operate your files in Mac OS just like in Windows. You can also operate e-mails in Mac. But what you mean't by Office, is it Microsoft Office ?Ashik39930.8660554051

Answer

One problem...you can't use the Softwares for Windows on your Mac or vice versa. You need the Mac OS versions...ie i think you currently have the MS Office for Windows, with that you can't install it on your Mac. But Microsoft already released the Office version for Mac OS. So you need to buy it for your Macbook Pro.

Most of the softwares that released for Microsoft Windows are also available for Mac OS

But I already told you that my macbook has the parallel version of the Windows XP professional OS installed. SO why cant I use MS office for windows on my macbook? Why should I buy the Mac version if I have the Windows XP operating system already installed on my MAcbook? That answer does not make sense to me.

Answer

Like i said, You are able to run windows on your Mac and you can run those softwares with Parallels, If you are using windows on your MacBook, you can't get rid of virus or spywares. So you can still use windows but you must use AntiVirus/AntiSpyware...

If you still want to use windows on your Macbook then there is no difference between your Dell and Apple....

I am not happy with this answer. This does not explain why so many people switch to apple to run their windows programs. There must be many advantages that you are not telling me here. I do not believe that there is no advantage to running my windows programs on my Macbook using the installed Windows XP pro.

Answer

Hello,

You can run your programs on your MacBook under Parallels. However, there is no difference or advantage of running them on a MacBook under Parallels. People switch over to Apple because of the ease of use in most cases. -- 'You plug it in and it just works, therory.' -- However, the only advantages over using a MacBook vs a PC is that MacBooks don't get many infections as the PC does. Don't get confused here, there are viruses for the Mac, just not millions like there are for the PC.

With that said, that's really all the advantages there are over using a Mac instead of a PC.
If you want to use all your existing programs under you Mac under Paralles, you may do so. However, you still have to install anti-virus software and anti-spyware software as well as keep Windows up to date just as you would under a PC.

Brandon

I do not buy this answer. It does not add to what has already been said and it is not true that these are the only advantages of using a macbook over a PC. And it does not help me with the advantages and disadvantages of using the installed Windows xP pro in my new Macbook.

I already paid a lot of money for the parallel version of Windows XP and do not wish to have to buy a copy of the Mac version of windows office if it is not necessary. But your reply implies that I am better off with the Mac version?

Hello,

You either don't know how to read anyones replies or you are just annoyed that you spent a lot of money on an apple that serves no advantages over using a PC.

Many, many experts have all agreed with each other on this and you're not going to get anything else here.

I am going to opt myself out now and you're only going to get the same thing from another expert.

Ok, most of the PC problems may still occur, but it won't bring down the whole system.

You can run most if not all PC software. Boot times should even be faster since it really doesn't have to bang the hardware. In many cases stuff may even run faster.

The advantages are in the choice of software, there are so many more software titles for the pc (I didn't say good software) that it isn't funny. With a MAC running a virtual PC, you will now be able to run virtually everything! If I could afford a MAC book, you're damn right I would do what you're doing. The only disadvantage to MAC is (at least until recently) is you can't just build one from scratch like a PC. Have fun upgrading the graphics card! Even now that they run on intels and AMD's if you know where to look, you have to get the right hardware or the right MAC system files for your hardware. And I can tell you trying to run a MAC on a PC is ten times harder.

I was tinkering with VMWare and I got as far as Tiger, I never could get leopard to run right. I have a newer CPU now so maybe I'll give it another shot.

The other thing good about MAC is the software is more intuitive. Sometimes with a PC you have to actually read a manual, and no-one likes doing that.....

In my opinion, with a desktop go PC, with a laptop go MAC, and if MAC had half of what the PC has software wise, peeople wouldn't be using windows on it.

Software, software, software, that in a nutshell is why they are doing PC on a MAC.....

(believe me I know, I've been "collecting" software for many years).....
