underground sprinkler system, I have one sprinkler head that keeps on running it is manual shutoff.... I assume its just the head but not sure to replace it or do you think it is just malfunctioning...thanks MaryJane

Generally the system is divided into zones; each zone having several sprinkler heads. This is because if they all came on at once, the pressure would be insufficient to cover the intended area of each haed. The zones are controlled by valves. If a valve fails to close, you would have several heads staying on. As this is not the case, I suspect that the one valve is on a zone all by itself. Try shutting down each zone until you find which zone it is on. If you can't shut it off by manually closing the zone valves, you have a bad zone valve. I have not seen a sprinkler with it's own shutoff, but if this is the case, then replace the shutoff to that head, or the head if the shutoff is built in.
