Question

2004 Chevy 2500HD with 8.1 gas and alison transmission. The trailering-mode and OD defeat functions stopped working. It seems that a shift-lever-switch problem could explain the failure; however, upon ignition switch engage neither of the two yellow transmission mode lights is momentarily illuminated. The transmission appears to function normally.

The most common cause I have seen is the shifter switch wiring breaking inside the steering column upper and lower shroud covers. These covers will pop off and then follow the orange wire to the plug. You should see a break and then it's a matter of replacing the shift lever.
