Question

Check engine light was on, replaced EGR valve, light came back on. Cleaned intakes and tube to exhaust. Still getting same code. Can't inspect. Tried air conditioner yesterday as it was hot and the old problem of the radio locking and air conditioning not cooling started. Got a clr err message before the lock up. Won't even start today. All kinds of clicking and flickering like it's possessed.

Hi! It is a 2001 Monte Carlo. It has 147,000 miles. It has a 3.4 engine.

Replaced the EGR valve and tried cleaning the intakes and tube to exhaust.

Thank you!

What trouble codes were setting in the engine computer, have you verified the starter and battery have clean, tight and corrosion free connections and has the battery ever been replaced?

My Dad has a OBD II Trouble Shooter and it comes up with "E". No codes display. Guessing that means error. The radio screen showed "clr err" before it locked yesterday.

It ran fine and sat all night and now won't start. The battery connections are good and the battery has not been replaced.

It has been fine, it seems electrical. There have been no problems with the starter at all.

The check engine light was still on yesterday and when we unhooked the battery and connected it again it ran fine on the drive home. (25 to 30 miles) The car sat all night and now is making all sorts of clicking noises when you try to start it. It only makes a clicking noise when you try to honk the horn.

I opened the passenger door and there were several series of clicking noises and noise coming from the car speaker and the key was not even on.

Hmmm. Is there any chance a rat or rodent has entered the car and eaten thru a wiring harness? I have seen several cases where they decide to make a nest in the air box (directly on top of the engine computer), anywhere on top of the engine? Are the engine and body grounds in good shape and clean, tight and corrosion free?
