Question

just found a bird, baby, with all its feathers and surface wounds on it it can move and walk but dont think it can fly. i live in louisville ky and need to know what to do next and where can i take it. because i have multiple cats and cant keep a wild bird. thanks

Already Tried:
just brought it in the house because i cant see where a nest is anywhere near the place where i found it, thinking that our cat brought it to us but not sure. its isolated now in a small box with shredded paper and a lid of water w/small specs of bread. it has moved around in the box and i was going to put it back outside but its very sunny and about 88 degrees. where can i take it.

It's kind of you to want to help this little bird. Baby birds often cannot fly too well when they first leave the nest. The parents continue to feed them and they flutter on the ground and from shrub to shrub until they learn to fly. From your description, this bird is probably at that point. You're right that it's a dangerous time of life for birds. Many end up being caught by predators. It's usually recommended that the bird be left where it was found so the parents can continue to care for it, but since you have cats, that may not be a good idea. The best thing to do for the bird in this case is turn it over to a wildlife rehabilitator. These are people trained to raise and treat all types of wildlife, then release the babies when they're old enough. There is no charge for their services - they just want to help the animals.
