Question

I have 4 inside cats ages 9, 4, and 3. None of them have ever been outside ever. They are all declawed. We are possibly going to have to put them outside due to our children having allergies. How do you think the cats will adjust to this, we also have 3 outside dogs, the cats and dogs have never really been around each other.

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXX,

I am sorry to hear that you are in this situation. Unfortunately, it is not considered wise to put declawed cats outside. They cannot fend off attacks from clawed cats, and are much more likely to get hurt by other cats or by wild animals. Also, if an animal were chasing them, they would have much difficulty climbing trees and other things to get away.

If you are in a situation where you must remove your cats from your home due to your children's allergies, then it may be more humane to look for alternative homes for your kitties then to allow them to live outside. It just isn't really fair to them.

I hope that this information is of help to you. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
