Question

My daughter has a 1996 mecury misque, it will not shut off, the mechanic's can't figure out what it is. You can take the key out and it continues to run

yes, they have replaced the ignition switch, and it still doesn't turn off.

thank you for the reply, what I really wanted to know is if they remove the ignition switch from the housing(electrical part) and try to turn off the car from the switch its self, not using the ignition key cylinder. where the ignition key cylinder slides into the steering column there is a shaft that feeds the ignition switch, and if that shaft is bad it wont turn the car off, here is a diagram.
