when I drive the car, the engine revs up and down and the car begins to lurch foward suddenly. I parked the car and revved the engine and the battery indicator light came on and the RPMs would not go more than 5,000 I cannot even get the car into the red if I wanted to.

Answer

In park the PCM will not let the rpm's over rev to procet the engine.
Is this the only time the battery light on?
When does it lurch the most cold/hot? day/night? wet/dry?

215 days and 9 hours ago.

Reply

This is the only time when the battery light come on is in park, the lurching is all the time, mostly in the middle of the day when it is warmer outside. and also on the freeway.

the light came on later after I bought the car. I have been driving the car for 3 years. it is a clean car i did not have problem with it. the check engine light has been on since I bought the car. I drove my car across the country 3 times nothing happened. last weekend I drove my car as usuall and that is when i had the problem with lurching thing. my car still running I drive to school every day but I go about 45 mph it started lurtching when i drove on the freeway so I slow down and the car goes ok for short time and then starts lurtching again. I think it happens when it gets hot because today i drove the car back and forth to school and I was going 45 mph suddenly the car lurched for a littl bit and i slow down and the car went fine. So, tonight after i came from school I was like let me push the gas padel all the way down to see what'd happen. I pushed the gas padel all the way down and the rpm cannot go higher than 5000, and the battery light came on and off. I did it the same again and the rpm still the same cannot go higher than 5000. This is my problem.

Hi XXXXXXXXX my name is Don. do you have an auto zone near you. auto zone will pull the codes for the check engine light for FREE. there are about 300 codes the engine can set. and if there is more than 1 it will list them all. if you drive with the check engine light on and something else goes wrong you will not know because the light is already on. you may have a new problem or several things that are not working right by now.

Thank you Don. I went today to Auto Zone they pulled out all the codes and they told me to come later as soon as any light come on. So, I drove the car today to school there was the Maintaince light still on but nothing else and while I am driving back to home the engine light came on. I am going to Auto Zone again tomorrow tp pull out the codes again.

Hi Don, the codes are P1131 and P1151

Accepted Answer

I have look at the codes you have and there is a lean condition in your car there are many possibilities for the cause of the problem. most I have see a vacuum leak in the system cause these codes. but this is one you are going to have to take to a garage to find the problem. Here are a list of all the things that can cause these codes. I realize the code you are looking at is not the same as yours but the books refer you to this code for all in this category

P1130 - Lack of HO2S-11 Switch, Fuel Trim at Limit The HEGO Sensor is monitored for switching. The test fails when the HO2S fails to switch due to circuit or fuel at or exceeding a calibrated limit.
  • Electrical:
    • Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S
    • Water in harness connector
    • Open/Shorted HO2S circuit
    • Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
    • Damaged HO2S
    • Damaged PCM
  • Fuel System:
    • Excessive fuel pressure
    • Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors
    • Leaking fuel pressure regulator
    • Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
    • Vapor recovery system
  • Induction System:
    • Air leaks after the MAF
    • Vacuum Leaks
    • PCV system
    • Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
  • EGR System:
    • Leaking gasket
    • Stuck EGR valve
    • Leaking diaphragm or EVR
  • Base Engine:
    • Oil overfill
    • Cam timing
    • Cylinder compression
    • Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S(s)
A fuel control HO2S PID switching across 0.45 volt from 0.2 to 0.9 volt indicates a normal switching HO2S.
