Question

Dell XPS 630 4gb ram,22in flat monitor; I reinstalled xppro recently, the drivers installed by Dell agent online - included ATI catalyst. Since then the screensaver and power settings don't work. I rt click desktop, pick screensaver to start in 3 min and monitor to cut off in 30 min. -- but neither takes effect even tho the 'preview' is okay. Same c ATI enabled or not.
Can someone help?
Thanks

Answer

hello

thanks for your question.

Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Right-click on the Task Scheduler service and select Properties. Set "Start Type" to "Automatic" and click "Apply".

If that doesn't work, update your video drivers.

follow these steps

1--'start type' was already set to'automatic'

2- the video driver was recently installed so I think it is the latest.

The screensavers are located in C:|windows\system32, with a intro of 'ss'.

"I would recommend a restore" is not much help. It is a court of last resort, used only for major,'can't boot' problems.
Thanks for the effort. I will search elsewhere and if still no help I'll just do without.

Actually, I will check 'accept'.
I went to the Kelly reference and found a tiny file that allowed me to enable screensavers.
So, it did work.
