Optional Information

Age: 38 years old; Female, California

Already Tried:
I have no idea what has been tried so far. I am the administrator of a Battered and Homeless Women's Shelter and the woman who is taking Perphenazine/Amitriptyline was sent to us by County Mental Health with a disgnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder only, however, she is telling us that she has been diagnosed as Schizophrenic. I need to know how safe it is to keep her at our shelter as we have small children and battered women sheltered here. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Hi XXXXX XXXXX,

Thanks for using JustAnswer!

This combination medication is used to treat depression, anxiety and agitation.

The amitriptyline component is an antidepressant which elevates depressed moods. Perphenazine relieves anxiety and agitation.

This medication is used to treat depression occurring with anxiety/agitation or with certain mental/mood disorders (e.g., schizophrenia). This medication is a combination of a tricyclic antidepressant (amitriptyline) and an antipsychotic medication (perphenazine). Together, they restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin). This medication helps you to have a better mood and sense of well-being, think more clearly, and feel less nervous, so that you can take part in everyday life.

I hope this helps.

Thank you the information was very helpful. With the information that I received from you and what I was able to gather from the client who takes the medications I was able to determine that she does not pose a safety hazard to the other women and children who are sheltered here. Again thank you for your prompt reply. I did accept the answer as soon as I read your reply.

Sincerely,

Faith Mitcehll
