Question

what can i do next. my 11 year old border collie has been dripping blood before urinating, after lying down for some time for weeks now. the vet said it is a bladder infectrion, put him on antibiotics, tested his blood, says it is not cancer, not a tumour, x-rayed him but there is no improvement. sometimes less blood, sometimes more. the medicine is called baytril and another is a capsule to improve the mucus in the bladder wall (?). and another pill is an antinflamatory. he eats well, plays, walks like an older dog but ok. sometimes seems to be uncomfortable because of the way he looks at me. what can i expect and what can i do next. he cannot stay on medicine that long, surely. mers. Optional Information

Age: 11; Male; Breed: border collie

Already Tried:
weeks and weeks of antibiotics, baytril and anti-inflamitories and some capsules which are for the mucus in the blader wall (?), bloodtest to see if it is cancer, x-ray to see any tumours. the vet eliminated tumours, cancerous cells but established that the bladder wall is slightly thickened. the dog always spills drops of blood after lying down and often before urinating, sometimes more than others. he eats well, still exercises and only sometimes shows signs of discomfort, possibly pain, when he looks at me in that funy way. i want to know how long i can go on with this treatment as it has been weeks and weeks. what else could i do. is the diagnosis wrong maybe. Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXX,

I will tell you right up front that the way this site works, I can chat with you back and forth at no charge, for as long as we both need to feel satisfied that I understand what is going on with your pet.

When I then take this information and go write up an "Answer" you will have to pay a deposit of $9 TO THE SITE (not to me personally) in order to read the answer. The answer is blocked from viewing by the system until you pay a deposit.

Then, if you are satisfied with the answer, you can "accept" it - at which point the website transfers my portion of your deposit, to my account. If you are not satisfied, you can:

1. Ask me for clarification by replying,
2. Reject my answer and ask for another expert to answer it, OR
3. Reject my answer and ask for a refund (which will be provided by the moderators, not by me personally as I do not hold the deposit).

Does that all make sense?

Do you want to proceed?

Josette,

I need to ask some questions to proceed. I sent the above message just to make certain that you understood that you would not be able to view my answer to you without making the deposit. Many people do not realize this when they begin using the website.

What is the name of the other medication that your vet gave you for the "mucus" in the bladder wall?

Is your dog neutered or intact?

Did the vet take plain X-rays, or did he do some X-rays that involved putting a catheter into your dog's penis and instilling some contrast material (dye) into the bladder?

Has your dog had a sonogram (ultrasound)?

Dr. K
